With up to 80% of oil system failures caused by contamination, the direct cost benefits of hydraulic filtration are obvious.  All hydraulic systems will benefit from filtration, with those operating in dirty or moisture laden environments requiring a more comprehensive filtration package to reduce overall system costs and operational downtime.

Off-line filtration connects directly to the fluid tank and operates independent of the machinery, allowing it to function when the system is used or not. These filters can offer even greater benefits than in-line filtration alone, such as the removal of water, oxidation products, acids and varnishes.  They will extend the life of in-line filters by complimenting filtering at a lower micron level than the in-line filtration systems as the off-line flow rates are not affecting the in-line system requirements. click here to find out more about the MHS range of in-line filtration.

CJC (CC Jensen)

CJC has established itself as one of the leading designers and manufacturers of oil and diesel filtration products. Their range includes fine filters, desorbers, vacuum filters, monitoring equipment, filter inserts, and more. With mechanical damage often caused by particles below 2 µm, CJC products can filter out half of all particles larger than 0.8 µm in just one pass (3 µm absolute).

Varnish and resin is a result of the hydraulic oil being exposed to oxygen, water, and high temperatures. The build-up of these materials creates sticky and abrasive surface on mechanical components.

  Particles in the system can collide with system components, damaging the surface and creating new particles. They can also grind against the surface when the particle is wedged between movable parts.

Issues with Water in Hydraulic Systems

Corrosion and cavitation can occur when water particles are present in hydraulic oil. Cavitation is caused by water particles imploding under pressure, damaging the metal surfaces.

Water particles can also change the viscosity of the oil, causing metal wear, cracking, and pitting.

Fine Filters (HDU)

CJC™ Fine Filters are oil filtration units with integrated circulating pumps for off-line installation. The filters are recognised around the world as highly efficient oil maintenance systems for applications involving hydraulic oil, lubrication oil, gear oil, quenching oil, phosphate esters and more. This is ideal for controlling oil contamination levels for particles, water and degradation products (oxidation resin/sludge, varnish).

The filter elements used have a filtration degree of 3 microns absolute and a very large dirt-holding capacity. For example a 27/27 element (27cm x 27cm) standard element will hold a minimum contamination weight of 4kg, although much higher levels have been recorded by CJC on their website by their customers.  The filter elements deliver measurable customer benefits such as: lower operation and maintenance costs, increased productivity, and maximum lifetime for system components, in-line filter elements and of course the oil.

Filter Separators (PTU)

CJC™ Filter Separators combine fine filtration with water separation in one unit, with an integrated circulating pump. They are designed for use in applications containing hydraulic oil, diesel fuel, lubrication oil, and other fluids where water ingress is a constant or recurrent problem.

 

The Filter Separator units remove water by coalescence, while also minimising oil contamination particles and oil degradation products (oxidation resin/sludge, varnish).

The filter elements have a filtration degree of 3 microns absolute and a very large dirt-holding capacity. This, combined with efficient and continuous water removal from the oil, provides numerous benefits including reduced maintenance, increased productivity, and maximum lifetime of system components and oil.

Desorbers

CJC™ Desorbers are patented products designed to remove water from oil types which either bind and emulsify water, or are a high viscosity oil (up to ISO VG 1000). Desorbers are ideal for use in applications where water ingress is a continuous and significant problem, whether for lubrication oil, gear oil or hydraulic oil.

 

Desorber units operate by heating oil slightly before it meets a counter flow of cool air in the desorber housing. Air heated by the oil expands, drawing water from the oil. The subsequent air-cooling condenses the water and the dry air is re-used for removing water from incoming oil.

These Desorber units remove water from all kinds of oils effectively and reliably. This results in measurable benefits that include fewer unscheduled production stops, increased system component lifetime, increased productivity and fewer oil changes.  It should be noted that the desorber units only remove water.  Other contamination types should be treated by using a HDU unit in tandem with a desorber.

The Desorber product range is flexible and scalable, suitable for oil systems containing only a few litres of oil through to systems with up to 50,000 litres.
